A Simple Shift Handoff for Golf Course Staff

Help the next golf course shift start prepared with a short handoff covering unfinished work, equipment issues, and the person responsible.

The afternoon crew should not have to guess what happened in the morning. A short handoff helps them start with the right information, especially when the course is busy.

Leave three useful notes

Before leaving, ask the outgoing shift to record:

  • What still needs to be done.
  • What needs attention, such as a cart taken out of service or a low supply.
  • Who is responsible for the next step.

Keep each note specific. “Cart 12 is out of service; supervisor notified” is more useful than “cart problem.” Follow your course's procedure for urgent issues instead of relying on a note alone.

Make the handoff easy to find

Choose one place for routine handoff notes. Scattered texts, scraps of paper, and verbal messages make it harder to find the current information.

The incoming shift should review the notes before starting work. If something is unclear, ask the outgoing worker or supervisor while they are still available.

Keep it short

A handoff does not need to become a report. Start with a few lines and focus on exceptions. Review recurring problems at the end of the week and decide whether a checklist needs updating.
